Business license staff to visit April 29 and 30

LAUGHLIN - Clark County will send Business License Department staff members from Las Vegas to Laughlin for five hours over a 2-day period at the end of April to take applications - but not issue licenses, as that can only be done in Las Vegas.

The staff members will be at the Clark County Regional Government Center on Laughlin Civic Drive between Casino Drive and Thomas Edison Drive from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, April 30.

Anyone needing assistance before then may call 702-455-4355 or 800-328-4813. Most of the forms may be obtained at www.co.clark.nv.us, then click on public records and business license.

LAUGHLIN - The next meeting of the Colorado River Greenway Heritage Trails West ad hoc committee will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 21. Because of the Laughlin River Run, the location will be moved to the west (senior citizens) wing of the Spirit Mountain Activities Center in Mountain View Park on Needles Highway at Arie Avenue.

The public is invited.

Ground to be broken for food bank April 28

LAUGHLIN - The official ceremony breaking ground for the new and larger Colorado River Food Bank in lower Laughlin will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, on the lot at the corner of Laughlin Civic Drive and Deputy Way, across the street from the Clark County Public Works Department yard in the Clark County Regional Government Center campus.

Officials from 40 federal and state agencies have been invited and representatives from Reid's staff also will be on hand to help answer questions about how to apply for and acquire the money set aside for the Silver State.

Those interested in attending the seminar are asked to register on Reid's web site at reid.senate.gov. Space is limited.

Reid also issued recently a guide to navigating the economic recovery funding that can be viewed at http://reid.senate.gov/issues/upload/reid_arra_guide.pdf.

HEROs to distribute free CFL light bulbs this Friday

LAUGHLIN - Armed with 10,000 compact florescent lamp bulbs donated by NV Energy, volunteers of Harrah's Employees Reaching Out in Laughlin will take to the streets to help some 800 Laughlin families become more energy efficient.

Each Laughlin residence will receive 12 CFL bulbs. Harrah's volunteers, easily recognizable in their H.E.R.O. hats and shirts, will walk door-to-door in selected Laughlin neighborhoods offering the bulbs which the federal government is requiring to replace incandescent bulbs.

The 75,000 light bulbs in this Nevada project in four cities collectively will save more than $3 million in energy costs over the life of the new bulbs. CFLs use 75 percent less energy, emit 85 percent less heat and last up to 10 times longer, although they cost considerably more than the old-fashioned bulbs.

Stimulus funds to be used for youth jobs

CLARK COUNTY - The state of Nevada has joined with Clark County to begin using federal stimulus funding to support the Clark County Summer Business Institute to provide summer jobs for at least 301 youth in the county.

The public is invited to see the joint panel discuss permanently combining them, to make it easier to obtain a quorum rather than its current requirement of each section having to have a majority of its appointees present to conduct business. The agenda also includes appointment of secretaries and assistant secretaries from among the members since the Laughlin Town Manager's Office no longer records and writes the minutes.

High School to perform musical Lagooned

LAUGHLIN - The musical Lagooned, under the direction of Alise Andrews, will be produced on Wednesday and Thursday, April 29 and 30, at 7 p.m. in the Laughlin High School Theater.
