LAUGHLIN - The Lady Cougars softball team replaced the season's only junior varsity contest, which had been canceled, and wound up beating the neighboring JV Lady ‘Stangs, 14-7, on the Needles High School diamond on April 1.
The junior varsity Lady Antelopes of Seligman, Ariz., had been slated to visit on March 31, but the twin-bill was canceled.
Of the lone-game JV season, Reisdorph observed, “It was good for us. We are trying to build up our program up here.” The Needles varsity is the two-time defending NIAA champion in Class 2A.
He used his youngest players - he doesn't have any seniors - including freshman pitcher Jordan Wright, who has varsity experience. She fanned 10 Blue and White batters, issued 4 free passes to 1st base and hit a batter with a pitch. NHS earned 4 of its 7 runs, he said.
Laughlin scored most of its runs on walks and errors and tallied its victory run in the 4th inning of a 5-inning time-limited game, Reisdorph said.
The last varsity game for Coach Craig Reisdorph's girls was the March 25 visit by Indian Springs High School's Lady Thunderbirds. The Silver and Blue won, 10-8, in their closest non-tournament contest this season.
With the Easter spring break it won't be until Tuesday, April 14, that LHS will play again, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., on the Lady Cougar diamond with Las Vegas Mountain View Christian's Lady Saints. The next day LHS will travel to Indian Springs.
The previously scheduled doubleheader with the Sandy Valley Lady Sidewinders on April 3 was moved to Tuesday, April 21, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Laughlin. |
