Lady Cougars one, Cougars two in 2nd Overton track meet

OVERTON - In its second trip here in a week, Laughlin High School was the best (Lady Cougars) and second-best (Cougars, by one point) of the smaller schools in a track-field meet.
Coaches Ben Fermon's and Debbie Brody's girls were fourth with 69 points, one position better than the previous week; the LHS guys eighth with 18 points, three spots higher. The May 8 Grant Bushman Invitational at Moapa Valley High School drew 14 teams per gender and concluded Laughlin's season.
Senior Ariana Hardy finished her stellar career, winning the high jump - at her season's best, 5-ft., 6-in. - and the long jump, by more than seven inches, at 17-ft.. She also finished second in the 200-meter dash, contributing 28 points individually.
Senior Jessica Gnadt won the 300-meter hurdles in 52.05 and was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles to add 12 points individually.
Senior Jeri Lynn Brody was third in the shot put, worth six points; senior Brenda Cortez also got six points, for sixth places in the 1,600- and 800-meter runs.
Three relay units added 16 points. Names were not listed. Eight points came for second place at 3,200 meters, six for third at 800 meters and two for seventh at 1,600 meters.
Ashley Barton scored Laughlin's other point, eighth in the 3,200-meter run.
Also entered were Kay Van, Chantel McDonald, Marissa Peters, Jasmine Brown and Amanda Fantaro.
Relay units earned the boys 11 points - five for fourth place at 3,200 meters, three for sixth at 1,600 meters, two for seventh at 800 meters and one for eighth at 400 meters. Names were not listed.
Cody McGeshick added four points for fifth in the 3,200-meter run and three for sixth in the 1,600-meter run.
Also entered were Nicholas Prisco, Jackson Walton, Kristopher Suhr, Nick Maldanado, Jacob McGaw, Robert Burkett, Allen Layno and Jaime Voelker.
The May 2 Richard Lewis Invitational drew 16 teams per gender. |
