BEATTY - The Lady Cougars and Lady Hornets split a volleyball doubleheader on Oct. 9 on the Green and Gold's home court with Beatty High School capturing the first match, 2-0, before Laughlin High School got warmed up to take the second match, 2-0.

BHS won the JV match 25-13, 20-25, 15-12.

In the first varsity match, Beatty won, 25-12 and 25-20.

“It took our girls a while to get into their game,” observed Coach Eliza Candelaria.

“We had a very slow start, but in the second game (we began) hitting the ball well and moving well on the court.”

Laughlin won the second match, 25-21 and 25-19.

“Our girls played well the whole (second) match. We just kept coming back. Beatty had some saves on balls I couldn't believe they saved, but our girls were right there. This is the first time this season I've seen us play up to our ability. We have so much talent, they are still finding their ID as a group,” she said of her freshman-dominated squad.

Preliminary stats showed Jordan Wright with five aces and two kills, Jennifer Wood with four kills and a dig, Elisa Daniels with an ace and five kills, Brooke Lee with three kills and three digs and Pi Viriyakul, the only senior, with a pair each of aces and digs.

Next up will be Henderson International as the Lady Wolverines visit the Cougars Den on Thursday, Oct. 15, for a 4 p.m. JV match and 5 p.m. varsity match.

Candelaria noted that when the Lady Wolverines won on Sept. 25 at Henderson, LHS lacked some of its key players.

“This time we will be at full strength and if we play like we did yesterday (at Beatty) we will definitely beat them,” she added.

The Oct. 16 Sandy Valley varsity only doubleheader at LHS was shifted to Tuesday, Oct. 13. Laughlin will close the season on Oct. 20 at Indian Springs (JV and varsity) and Oct. 23 at Lund (varsity only).
