LAUGHLIN - The Las Vegas Valley Water District is returning for a second attempt to establish new rules and rates for the Big Bend Water District that it operates in Laughlin for the Clark County Commission.
Bronson Mack, the districts' representative to Laughlin, said that once the public comments from meetings held last week are digested, the district should be ready to come to the board in November or December for a recommendation to be forwarded to the county commission, which is the board of trustees for both districts. No one from Laughlin has ever been on the county commission.
He also announced a contractor soon will begin replacing up to 235 service lines in the El Mirage Estates area.
In other reports, Jake Jacobson, the new manager of the Clark County Water Reclamation District, said the average flows for the month were 2.3-2.5 million gallons a day, received praise for the use of flaggers at the Casino Drive-Bruce Woodbury Drive construction site and noted that the installation of the new twin pipelines under Woodbury Drive should be completed within two weeks of the meeting. The district's target was to finish the $10 million project before Halloween.
Rob La Fontaine of the City Manager's Office of Bullhead City advised that the contractor for the Arizona Transportation Department will be resurfacing Arizona Highway 95 from McCormick Boulevard north of the Laughlin Bridge to Marina Boulevard, almost six miles, from November through February.
Richard deClercq of the Clark County Parks-Recreation Department reported Congresswoman Dina Titus' staff will conduct mobile office hours at the Spirit Mountain Activity Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Oct. 28.
Connie Davis of the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce said Laughlin will be featured in the December issue of Nevada Magazine with a big debut celebration on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 5:30 p.m. PST during the chamber's monthly mixer, at Harrah's Laughlin. She also reported the chamber is working with the U.S. Census Bureau for the 2010 national head count.
Jena Morga of the Laughlin Tourism Commission reported on the upcoming special events, including the new Rage at the River off-road race in the Laughlin Special Events Park, Dec. 11-13. The Southern Nevada Off Road Enthusiasts group is the sponsor, with LTC supporting the club. |
