February 11 Social Services Committee meeting canceled
LAUGHLIN - The Laughlin Town Manager's Office has announced the Social Services Committee meeting for Thursday, Feb. 11, has been cancelled.
The other three panels will meet, starting with the joint Public Safety+Public Works Committee, at 10:30 a.m. PST on Tuesday, Feb. 16, followed by the Parks-Recreation Committee at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22 (instead of Feb. 15, its normal schedule, because of the Presidents Day holiday), and the Community Development Committee, at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
The public is invited to all the sessions, in the Clark County Regional Government Center on Laughlin Civic Drive between Casino and Thomas Edison drives. Agendas will be available at the Town Manager's Office in the government center three business days before the meetings.
Laughlin chamber to meet Feb. 18
LAUGHLIN - The Laughlin Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to a breakfast Thursday, Feb. 18, at 8 a.m. PST in the Pavilion at the Tropicana Express.

In addition to being the first annual meeting, speakers will be Pete Gorrie and Alan Kronberg. The session will replace the second Thursday evening mixer.
AARP driver safety class offered
LAUGHLIN - An AARP senior citizens safe driving program will be given at the Clark County Regional Government Center on Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. PST. The class will be a one-day session, designed for drivers 50 years and older.

Register to vote locally
LAUGHLIN - Adults may register to vote at the Laughlin Branch of the Las Vegas-Clark County Public Library on the Needles Highway at Las Palmas Lane, just above the U.S. Post Office, on the following dates and times:
Thursday, Feb. 18, from 4-6 p.m.; Wednesday, March 3, from 10 a.m.-noon; Saturday, March 20, from 10 a.m.-noon; Thursday, April 1, from 4-6 p.m.; Wednesday April 14, from 4-6 p.m.; Thursday, May 6, from 4-6 p.m.
Proof of residency (name and full address, Nevada driver license, gas bill, phone bill, etc.) and picture ID (Nevada license, etc., not another state's driver's license) are required to register.

Census announces final testing dates
LAUGHLIN - The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the final test dates and locations before hiring up to 45 persons to help in Laughlin and Searchlight.

Parents get night out Friday
LAUGHLIN - The Clark County Parks-Recreation Department and the Laughlin Unit of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Colorado River, in the Spirit Mountain Activity Center, will watch local children on Friday, Feb. 12, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. PST so their parents may have a night out.
The cost is $5 per child. Each boy and girl must be registered and paid for by Thursday, Feb. 11, or the price will be $6 per child. The price includes a hamburger, snacks, a movie, games and crafts. Children must be school age to attend. For more information call 298-3413.
Democratic Club of Laughlin to meet
LAUGHLIN - An organizational meeting for Laughlin Democrats will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. PST at American Legion Laughlin Post Hall 60 at 1510 Bruce Woodbury Drive.
All persons who are registered Democrats or desire to register as a Democrat are invited to attend. Future organizational meetings will be held March 10 and April 14 at 6 p.m.

Chamber workshop will be Feb. 11
LAUGHLIN - Bill Wilson, CCIM, of Nevada State Development Corporation, will present a financing seminar on how a business can purchase its own office space or other facility, with a low-interest, long-term loan while qualifying for up to 95 percent financing.

Marriage protection message offered on Feb. 14
LAUGHLIN - Sunday, Feb. 14, Valentine's Day will provide . Pastor Gene Lee's message theme at Laughlin Community Church, entitled “Protecting Your Marriage,” with the scripture text from Matthew 5:27-32.
This message will be presented at the 8 a.m. PST and 10:30 a.m. services.
Included with the sermon will be visual support with both PowerPoint slides and video segments. A fill-in document for use during the message also will be provided.
The Children's Focus Time during the 10:30 a.m. family celebration will begin a new video portraying events surrounding the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
Other events at LCC include the Tuesday Worship Hour with Pastor Marilyn Meyer at 6:30 p.m., the Women's Fellowship Night on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. and the Men's Fellowship Breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7 a.m.

Sign up for Little League February 13
LAUGHLIN - The Laughlin Little League baseball program will have sign-ups on Saturdays, Feb. 13 and 20, at Mountain View Park on Needles Highway at Arie, with free hot dogs and soda for every boy and girl who tries out.
For kids ages 4-8, the sign-ups and try-outs will be from noon to 2 p.m. PST. For those age 9 and older, it will be from 2-4 p.m. An accompanying adult should bring a birth certificate and three proofs of residency for each boy or girl.
Children need to wear a hat and long pants for the tryouts at the baseball field at the park's east end. Registration cost will be $45 per child and will include a hat, shirt, pants, belt and socks.

BLM to approve shooting range
KINGMAN - Bureau of Land Management Kingman Field Manager Ruben Sanchez will sign the Decision Record authorizing the Recreation-Public Purposes Act disposal of public lands to the Arizona Game-Fish Department for 315 acres in Mohave Valley to be used for a public shooting range.
The 315-acre site is about 10 miles southeast of Bullhead City and two miles west of Boundary Cone Butte, an area of traditional importance to the Fort Mojave and Hualapai Indian Tribes. The final design mitigates impacts and is to be set up to be respectful of the traditions of both.
